Should I Stay or Should I Go

Earlier this month, Canadian bodybuilder and fan favorite Chris Bumstead claimed his fifth Olympia title for the fifth straight year for Classic Physique. After a very tough matchup between the runner-up Ramon Dino, Bumstead claimed his title. Now, the biggest question is going around in the bodybuilding world: is Bumstead going to hang them up? During this preparation, Bumstead claimed it as “the hardest beginning the prep of his career,” he said. With 12 weeks before the big show, he tore a muscle in his back.

He then had a moment of quitting and started to remember the beautiful moments Olympia had on him and the rest of his family. He was then eligible to train his back four weeks before the big show and felt a “moment of gratitude” and pushed his training. Then, he said in the previous years, he only focused on winning, and that was it. This year, he decided to go a different approach by enjoying the moments and soaking it all in.

It was a different mood than other years, and after his win, it was possibly the most emotional he had felt in the other four Olympias. Bumstead’s fiancé Courtney King explained her reaction to the win on her recent Instagram post.

“Every road you’ve been on with all of your Olympia wins being something different. But truly, this one was something special to witness,” she said.

Bumstead also thanked his longtime friend and videographer Calvin Youttitham for everything he has done for the five years of working with him by gifting him a Yachtmaster Rolex watch.

With all this put together, it is starting to lean towards Bumstead’s retirement from bodybuilding. It has been rumored for quite some time now. After the 2022 Olympia, Bumstead mentioned, “There’s been a lot of talk about my retirement for some reason, not retiring, don’t worry guys.” Now, the signs of Bumstead retiring are starting to look more realistic as the days go on.

Then, with more recent news, Chris Bumstead’s number one goal in life is to be a father, as he explained in a recent podcast he was on. After the Olympia, he announced on Instagram that he and his fiancée expect their first kid together sometime in 2024. Now, with focusing on a business, a wedding coming up in the future, and the news of starting a family, it is starting to lean towards the end of Chris Bumstead's career as a bodybuilder in Classic.

If this is the last time we see the now five-time Olympian as a classic bodybuilder, fans believe he will go to the Open. The biggest and most impressive part of Bumstead’s physique is his legs, and open directly focuses on legs and overall size. It does not seem as though the five-time Olympian is leaning toward that direction due to the overall damage he has dealt with in his career.

Regardless, Chris Bumstead has made a name for himself since 2019 and has built a platform in his social media presence and overall bodybuilding presence, becoming the eighth bodybuilder in history to have five or more Olympia titles.
